Educator's Day at the #WorldofCocaCola #EducatorsDay #hosted

My daughter and I were hosted over the weekend as part of Educator's Day by the World of Coca Cola.  As usual, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.   Our favorite part of visiting the museum would probably be the Vault.  The place where the real formula is kept.  Of course, there's always sampling the varieties of drinks from around the world.

There's more to the museum than just being a guest, though.  The World of Coca-Cola offers educators tools that will help students learn as well as an enjoyable field trip opportunity.  From their educator's tool kit :

Explore connections between what students experience at World of Coca-Cola and fulfillment
of core educational standards. Our Teacher Toolkit provides educators with the necessary tools to
ensure class field trips are educational as well as entertaining.

The Toolkit provides links to:
  • Social Studies
  • English/Language Arts
  • African American History Month
  • Green Guide
If you get the chance as either a home school educator or as a public school educator, it's worth checking out.

World of Coca-Cola #atlanta #family

I took my daughter and one of her friends to the World of Coca-Cola this past weekend. It was a pre-celebration for tomorrow. I thought I would share some of the sights we took in.

When taste testing, we still agree that Beverly is the worst. We toured Asia and Europe together. They stopped there and I went ahead and sampled some of Africa too.  Definitely a "to check out" item if you have the opportunity.   See this past Friday's post for what's going on this summer.

PSA: World of Coke Anniversary Celebration

Lights, Camera, Action! The World of Coca-Cola Kicks Off Summer Celebration with a New Short Film and More
The Atlanta Attraction Debuts New “Moments of Happiness” Film, Mobile App, Howard Finster Exhibit and Seventh Anniversary Ticket Offer

ATLANTA, May 15, 2014 – As Memorial Day weekend approaches, the World of Coca-Cola has no shortage of ways to enjoy the holiday. To kick off summer and in celebration of its seventh anniversary, the Atlanta attraction is introducing a new short film, “Moments of Happiness.” The World of Coca-Cola also is celebrating with:
  • A new app that allows iPhone users to experience the World of Coca-Cola in fun and surprising ways.
  • Howard Finster: Visions of Coca-Cola, a new gallery highlighting the works of American folk artist Howard Finster.
  • Discounted admission in honor of the seventh anniversary of the World of Coca-Cola at Pemberton Place on May 24.

“Moments of Happiness” Short Film
Happiness is all around us and it happens every day. That’s the spirit of the new film in the Coca-Cola Theater. The six-minute film celebrates some of life’s most memorable moments experienced by people of different ages and cultures around the world.

“We refer to the World of Coca-Cola as the Home of Happiness, so it makes a lot of sense that we feature a film that reflects that,” said General Manager of Retail and Attractions for The Coca-Cola Company, Russell Jacobs. “The film follows people going through milestone life experiences like skydiving for the first time, along with moments like surprising a loved one on a special occasion. That’s what the World of Coca-Cola is really all about – those shared moments of happiness, large and small.”

“Moments of Happiness” is only available for viewing at the World of Coca-Cola, but those interested in catching a glimpse of the film can check out the trailer at http://CokeURL.com/MomentsofHappiness.
World of Coca-Cola Explorer Mobile App
With the new World of Coca-Cola Explorer mobile app, guests can experience the attraction like never before. For those visiting the Atlanta attraction, the app is a great way to interact with more stories and deepen their experience.

Like a personal VIP tour guide, the app uses location-sensing technology to let guests:
  • Discover fascinating facts about Coca-Cola®
  • Create custom photos of themselves and their friends with fun frames and cool effects
  • Keep a journal of their favorite flavors from around the world in the Taste It! beverage lounge
  • Connect instantly on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Follow the World of Coca-Cola guide map as they go
  • Get general information about the attraction

The mobile app is designed to be used at the World of Coca-Cola. Guests can check in automatically when they arrive by enabling Bluetooth on their iPhones. The app then delivers engaging content as they travel throughout the attraction. After unlocking the app features, guests can continue to enjoy them long after their visit.

Howard Finster: Visions of Coca-Cola Gallery
Opening May 23, the World of Coca-Cola’s new gallery in Pop Culture will feature works from Howard Finster. A self-taught artist and Baptist minister from Georgia, Finster is considered one of the most important folk artists of the 20th century. He loved Coca-Cola and often used the iconic bottle shape in his artwork.

Howard Finster: Visions of Coca-Cola will include items from The Thomas E. Scanlin Collection, including:
  • A 13-foot-tall Coke bottle “big enough for man to stand in” that depicts historical figures in the artist’s unique style
  • The 8-foot-tall original folk art bottle, which Finster created for the 1996 Olympic Games and inspired a global art project
  • Tools from Finster’s studio that became works of art themselves

Anniversary Celebration Ticket Offer
The Atlanta attraction is celebrating its seventh anniversary since it moved to Pemberton Place in downtown Atlanta with a special ticket offer for early risers. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, the first 700 guests to purchase tickets at walk-up ticket windows will pay $7 for general admission with a limit of seven discounted tickets per guest. Georgia Aquarium/World of Coke

I took my kids to the Aquarium yesterday. We left fairly early to get there around opening time. This was necessary so that I could see about getting annual passes taken care of. At any rate, as per usual with my children, the visit was a 'zoom' visit. We did go see the Titanic (which according to a billboard I've seen, leaves Sept. 7th), which my daughter still thinks is spooky. They spent at least 30 minutes touching the rays at the touch pool in front of Georgia Explorer. They also were able to get a chance to see the penguins. YES, the penguins are still there, you have to go behind the scenes to see them.

After much pleading on the part of my nephews, we stopped next door at the World of Coca-Cola. I have to say that their 4D movie caught me off guard. The chairs MOVE. You don't just get the air and water effects. The kids actually found it funny, so all was well there.

I should have a scrapblog with a lot more pictures at the end of the week.

Morning at the Aquarium

I had my second day of duty at the Aquarium this morning. I normally enjoy working out there, today, though, I could have done without. The day started with 37 bus loads of kids (well, I don't know that one for a fact, it's rumor - I do know that most, if not all, of RCHaynie elementary came through, several classes from Lyman Hall and I saw uniforms from other private schools and that was just downstairs..) deciding to tour the Aquarium. All of which had to pass through the tunnel (where I was) in a steady stream for 2 hours. Now, if you're familiar with the way soundwaves and such work, you'll understand that in a tunnel under water, there is NO WHERE for the sound to dissipate to. In fact, they will rebound and amplify themselves as a result. Now, add in 20-30 kids at a time, all of whom are VERY excited to see the animals. They weren't yelling, but they didn't have to. By the time I was done, I had something of a major headache. Kind of spoils my regular enjoyment of getting to stand and talk to visitors.

At any rate, there are a couple of changes you should be aware of. No HEELYs in the Aquarium. It's not an official rule, but kids will be asked to walk through instead of riding. This is becoming a lot more common everywhere I go. I can't say I mind, I really don't care for Heelys myself. I won't even let my kids have them. The last time I was at Disney world, they don't want you wearing them there either. I know the malls don't like them, and my local Publix has a sign up that they're not allowed. So it shouldn't be a big surprise that this rule (while unofficial) is being slowly implemented.

Also, no wheelchairs or strollers on the moving sidewalk. They're also discouraging people wearing flip-flops from the moving sidewalk as well. Safety hazard in one case I would presume and wear on the sidewalk itself in the other. Those are just my suppositions as to reason, though.

On a side note - the new Coca-Cola Museum is set to open late May. That's directly next door to the Aquarium, so that'll be a great draw. You also have the Children's Museum on the other side of the Coca-Cola Museum, Centennial Park across the street and the CNN Center is about a block away. Lots of fun in the area. You can (if you look around) even find reasonable parking fees.
