Since January's box went over so well, we went ahead and got February's too. Two toys this time around, one chew stick and some treats.  The treats are definitely being enjoyed.  She took maybe 10 minutes to demolish the bully stick.  The rest I'm doling out slowly.

The toys aren't as popular this time as they were last time.  The ball toy has been briefly played with, then left in the basket.  The mask hasn't left the basket yet.

For the investment, it works out well. She will eventually get to the toys, there just isn't as much of them to de-stuff. She loves to de-stuff.

Friday Furball (Mack from Snap-2It)

This is supposed to be posted tomorrow, but I've decided to add it to today's list. Please share so that I can find this sweet boy a home of his own. I'll have him at the PetSmart in Buckhead Saturday from about 12-4.

Instead of fitness friday, I decided I'd update on my foster doggie Mack. He's showing definite improvement with toy sharing, though he still has a way to go. I introduced him to "red dot" (laser pointer) and he loves chasing after that. He still loves to dash around the yard with Brooklyn and wrestle, too. He has yet to meet another dog he doesn't like (same goes for cats). He's VERY interested in meeting the new kitties that are at the adoption events at PetSmart and doesn't understand why he's not allowed to check them out (some are too little, some don't want to meet him).

As much as I like having him here, he really wants his own family. He'll curl up on the sofa with you to watch tv or movies, but is just as happy outside taking a walk or playing in the yard. He LOVES (read adores) squeaky toys, so be prepared to be squeaked out. Definitely house trained, he's good with crates too. He's not willing to pee/poop on a leash yet, so that's something that would have to be worked on if you don't have a fenced yard. His leash manners are better with the leash attached to his collar than his harness, but nothing that can't be fixed.

He's a really happy boy who's just happy to get whatever you'll give. You can find out more information about Snap-2it from their web site and you can fill out an application to adopt there too. His adoption fee is $150.

All 3 dogs were running around the yard (unusual for my senior girl). I had to buy pine straw to help the mud pit that is my back yard.

Meet Mac (foster dog)

He's a sweetheart of a boy, around 11 months old, shepherd mix. He's smaller than Brooklyn (around 50lbs), though very stout. I'm fostering him until he's adopted for Snap-2it. He's done very well here. He and Brooklyn run in the back yard, he's checked out the cats (and left them alone). Max confuses him to no end, he has no idea what to do with/about him and usually ends up barking when Max starts screaming.

He's learning to be polite on a leash. He did better for my daughter than he did for me, but he's doing very well. He's very bright and is catching on very quickly. Same with "sit". He loves the idea of treats, he hasn't figured out (yet) that if I say 'sit' and he sits, he gets a treat. I'm still having to guide him for now. He's also good with car rides. He had fun just riding in the car to pick up my kids from school this week.

He's a big people boy. He wants people, curl up with people, be loved by people. I'll have him out at the PetSmart in Buckhead (Howell Mill) Saturday if you want to swing by and meet him.

Drat - Thundershirt update

Well, the unexpected (sort of) storm happened last night. Around 2:30-3 the dog was antsy and started wandering the house. Around 3a she decided to try to join me in bed (this doesn't work). So I put her Thundershirt on (I downsized her shirt recently as the other seemed big) and gave her a bone. Lately, that's all it's taken to calm her down for a lot of the smaller storms. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough. She increased her pacing, continuously tried to get in bed with me, until I decided it was valium time. I then had to sit with her downstairs with TV and lights on to get her to settle. She fell asleep around 4:30, though I waited a while longer before I figured it was safe for me to return to bed.

So, for now, the Thundershirt with a bone is enough to distract her from the short storms that crop up during the day. It's not as effective at night with bigger storms. Ah well, we'll keep trying to find the right balance for her.

Our dog hates storms. She doesn't even like rain. As she's gotten older, she's gotten worse about how she handles the whole situation. A while back, after discussion with the vet, we put her on a supplement to help her keep calm on a regular basis and valium to be given before storms. Now, it's summer in Georgia and you can't tell me you can predict when exactly each summer storm is going to hit. So, it's hard to give her the valium 1.5 hrs ahead of time (giving it the opportunity to work).

I'd heard this mentioned a couple of times and finally decided it couldn't hurt to give it a go. We only just got it Wednesday, so I can't say it does or doesn't work yet. I'll have to update you on that later. In the meantime, here's Sierra modeling her new ThunderShirt.
