Mastick on Concrete

I took up the carpet that had been glued down to the concrete in my sunroom. I've been debating painting the concrete or staining it. I've pretty well decided against staining simply because of the labor-intensiveness of it. I can't afford a contractor to do it for me, either. Anyway, I've discovered that it will take something like goo-gone or something to get the glue up. I was curious to ask other do-it-yourselfers.. given it's so hard to get the glue up, if I clean it well wouldn't a paint adhere to it just fine? I can faux finish bricks or something on the concrete.
