Night out @TheFoxTheater with Hubby #MillionDollarQuartet

Thanks to the folks @BravePR, I was given the opportunity to go see this show with my husband. At first my husband wasn't keen on going, but he went anyway. We went over to Fresh 2 Order before hand and had paninis with dinner. WONDERFUL food and definitely filling. Given that I'm calorie counting, I did well doing a half panini and salad for dinner. The nice thing too was that we didn't get there until 7p (show started at 8p) and were out by 7:30p without feeling rushed.

The show itself, though, was the highlight of the evening. When we entered we were told up front that there would be no intermission and that if we thought the show was over to wait. There would be 4 more songs. Having grown up listening to Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley (to an extent, any way) I recognized their tunes. I listened some (not often) to Johnny Cash. I'm sorry to say that I didn't recognize Carl Perkins. Hubby though knew all of them and enjoyed them just as much as I did. By the end of the show, we agreed on who we knew that would enjoy the show (our moms) too.

I didn't get any photos (not allowed at the FOX) so that I can't share. I can, though, say that if you get the chance to go, both Hubby and I recommend it.

Review: Flashdance the Musical

Thanks to the folks at Brave PR, I was given the opportunity to go see Flashdance the Musical at the Fox. To be honest, I had mixed feelings about going. I liked the movie and had no idea what they'd do to it in order to turn it into a musical. I was curious enough to want to know, but dreaded it turning into a bad remake. So, I bit the bullet but left off the leg warmers and took myself downtown to see what was up.

It was opening night and the theater looked to be full. They had the movie screen down playing shorts of old MTV videos. A definite blast from the past. The show itself focused on the key scenes from the movie. I loved the interpretation of some of the songs by the trio of women. They did a wonderful job. I think my favorite was "Kiki" singing Manhunt.

For those that are looking for specific moments, yes they did the dance with the water. :) And while they didn't do the big dive roll from the film, the dance was very impressive for the audition. The one key thing they didn't do in the show that I was kinda looking for was the part with the ballet shoes. They did the money, but left off the ballet shoes.

For the men in the audience, they could appreciate the outfits (or lack thereof). Just sayin'. ;)

A good rendition of the movie, all told. I won't call it my favorite show at the Fox I've seen (that still goes to Beauty & the Beast), but an evening well spent regardless.

#MTAtlanta Medieval Times new show

I was invited to go to the grand preview of the new show at Medieval Times. I was able to take my husband and son as well as the son of a friend of mine. On entry, we were greeted by various members of the court.

The princess and king greeted guests as they entered, these ladies were 'floating' around and visiting. There were other knights, wenches, ladies and guards as well.

We were seated in the black & white knight section of the arena.

We were actually lucky enough to meet him and his horse ahead of the show. That made rooting for him that much nicer.

The show itself was wonderful! The display of the horses by the horsemaster as well as the falconry by the falconer, were thoroughly enjoyable. Of course the battles royale by the knights were a lot of fun to watch as well. For DJ (our guest), they announced his birthday and his graduation to the general arena. He thought that was pretty cool.

As to the food, dinner consisted of
Pureed Tomato Soup (our server called it Dragon Blood)
Garlic Bread
Oven Roasted Chicken Half (baby dragon)
Larger BBQ Spare Rib (dragon's finger)
Herb-Basted Potato (french fries)
Apple Pastry
Larger Beverage (Hubby and I had tea, kids had pepsi)

DJ ate everything on his plate and found himself foiled when he attempted to "help" my son eat his rib. My son did not, but is enjoying the fact that he can have it as leftovers this week.

It has been around 6 years since we last went to one of their shows. My son and I compared notes on the two shows. The story line is somewhat changed with a new 'bad guy' entering the fray. The story was very simple, which gave more time for the jousting and skills "games" the knights 'played'.

My son's favorite parts of the show was the falcon and the jousting. Our guest thought that the opportunity to cheer on "his" knight was cool, though he loved the sword play too. I loved that most of the knights were giving the flowers and "prizes" out to the younger girls in the crowd. It would be nice, though, if they had something for the younger boys too.

All in all, we had a great time. We loved the new story line and the performances of the knights were (though sometimes over done) very enjoyable. Our only complaint was volume. We had a hard time hearing our server and occasionally the speech from the performers. My son, though, is now contemplating having his birthday dinner there later this year.
