PSA: Atlanta History Center - Juneteenth: The First Day of Freedom

This month at the Atlanta History Center we are celebrating freedom with Juneteenth, a two-day family program on June 21st and 22nd. This family program coincides with the last Wells Fargo Free Admission Weekend, which allows guests to receive free admission to the historic houses, 22 acres of gardens, interactive program experiences, and exhibitions, including The Kinsey Collection. Attendees of Juneteenth explore the themes of freedom and family history through a variety of workshops, performances, and kid-friendly activities. Highlights of the weekend include Meet the Past gallery performances based on a few of the influential African American artists and writers featured in The Kinsey Collection as well as storytelling at Smith Family Farm. See our website for more details: AtlantaHistoryCenter.com/Family.

Be sure to visit the Atlanta History Center before June 17th, when our traveling exhibition Following in the Bartrams’ Footsteps closes. An indoor and outdoor exhibition that teaches visitors about the history of flora, fauna, and culture in the colonial American southeast makes a perfect first stop for those just out of school and ready to take advantage of summer break. This exhibition is free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday, Noon – 5:00 pm.
