Somebody stole my brain

After grumping at my husband about what poor pictures I've been taking with my camera, my husband asked "did you turn off the stabilization?". Uhh.. Not intentionally. So, off I go flipping through menus to try to figure out what I've done, not finding what I'm looking for. I finally fish out the manual (manual? it has a manual?) and read the troubleshooting section. I find "VR" printed neatly on the TOP of the camera (not in the menus) and yes, it's turned off.

Would someone please shake my skull and listen to see if anything rattles? I have a feeling everything fell out some time ago and I just never noticed..
