Confederate Sub
When we went out to Charleston with my son's Cub Scout Pack, we travelled in individual cars. We had to meet at 6p at the pier to go to the Yorktown and as long as we were there on time, we could do what we wanted. So after we got to the pier at 4 to make sure we knew where to go, we headed back out to see the Hunley, a Confederate submarine.. The Hunley was the first submarine to sink an enemy ship. It sank sometime after sinking the warship USS Housatanic. It was discovered by a team assembled by Clive Cussler in 1995 and recovered in 2000. You can't take photos of it at this point. It's still in a recovery tank in the old Naval Yard in Charleston. You can find out more information and see all sorts of photos at the Friends of the Hunley web site. It's also definitely worth the side trip while in Charleston.
