Bees Knees

I don't understand it. I watch the kids on the playground at school. They're all determined to chase the bees. There are bumblebees that fly around, generally somewhere near one of the slides. The kids are determined to take the mulch and throw it at the bees. If they don't do that, they have to run up to it, scream, then run away (still screaming). It's not just the little guys that do it. It seems to be pretty much all age groups. I just don't get it.
