The house was built by my great great grandfather George Riley Wells. The house is deceptive in it's appearance (ie: it looks small from the street). It has 4 original rooms with 12'+ ceilings. There are 2 fireplaces shared between two rooms. They're closed now, but could be reopened and brought up to code. It has heart of pine floors in the original house. You can see hand-hewn beams in the basement. The original exterior of the house is Georgia red clay. The insulation in it's foot thick walls is horse hair. The add-on section of the house is part brick, part wood. It also has an upstairs that is currently only accessible by ladder, but someone can recreate the stairs and refinish the upstairs for an added room (or two). The original spiral stairs were taken out and replaced by it's first indoor bathroom.
It's located on Mountain street within easy walking distance of both Stone Mountain Park and the Village of Stone Mountain. If you have kids, it's located within walking distance of Stone Mountain Elementary.
