On our trip around part of N. GA saturday we passed through Dahlonega. Of course, when in Dahlonega you must pan for gold. We toured a mine, panned for gold, and went gem-grubbing. Note: If you pan for gold, don't expect much unless you purchase the high-grade ore. Here's a sample of some of the gems we found. I've identified some and am working on the rest.

Wow, it looks like you did really well! My daughter loves rocks/minerals that sort of thing, I should definitely take her there. I thought that was sort of a rip off place, but it looks like it's a fun and educational trip. :)
