Why be a substitute..

Even though I haven't been in that many classes yet, I've noticed that if you're a sub, you're a "celebrity" to the kids. I was talking to some other subs (those that have been around a while) and they've noticed it as well. You walk through the hall and the kids will come over and give you a hug. At least one sub has been sighted outside of the school and was asked if he remembered the child that had found him. All of us agree, though, that their reaction is one of the big reasons that we keep on as substitute teachers.
