Start -> Take 2 toilet paper tubes and glue them together side by side. Punch holes on the sides on one end. Paint tubes green. String them through the holes so that you have a pair of binoculars. Tape/Glue green saran wrap over the end. You now have special binoculars meant to locate fiesty leprechauns.
Next -> Tell as many stories about Leprechauns as you can, esp. about how they are mischevious. Tell them that you have to look directly at them to catch them, they're tricky, and are VERY fast.
After all children have left the classroom for a period of time, make sure you have 'errands' to run so that you're not "in" the room when they return. Trash your classroom, throwing toys everywhere. Paint footprints on desk tops and cover with glitter. Scatter chocolate gold coins in among the toys strewn around the room. Leave, closing door and turning off light.
Return to classroom with children (you were off doing other things, after all). Express a lot of surprise and dismay at the mess in the room. Encourage them to clean up to find the 'surprises' left behind.
After cleaning up, have snack with as much sugar-based stuff as you can (in our case, a mom provided green cupcakes, students came in with cookies and 'm&mazing' bars, etc).
GO ON A LEPRECHAUN HUNT! Make sure you take your specially made binoculars with you. We found 'clues' of leprechauns around the school in the form of small splashes of green paint here and there.
Huge amount of fun, and the kids like it too.
